After year of enforced plastic bag ban, Philly residents are starting to use less paper bags, too

Philadelphia’s plastic bag ban has significantly reduced the amount of disposable bags used, as residents are beginning to use less paper bags, too. The ban, which was implemented in July 2021 and strictly enforced in April 2022, prevented 200 million plastic bags from being used. Most residents have opted for reusable or recyclable paper bags, though some have opted not to use bags at all, according to a city-commissioned study released on Thursday.
