Are rents rising in your Philly neighborhood? Don’t blame the baristas



Geoff Moss asked baristas around Philadelphia their opinions about gentrification in the city and how coffee shops play a part in the book ‘Barista in the City,’ which he co-authored with Keith McIntosh and Ewa Protasiuk. While the shops are considered by many to be both a cause and effect of urban gentrification, they are not the main drivers (mainly real estate developers and local governments), and baristas are low-wage service workers with limited housing options.
