N.J. could soon mandate abortions be covered by state-regulated health insurance plans

New Jersey could soon become the eighth state to mandate state-regulated private health insurance plans cover abortion, as part of Gov. Phil Murphy’s ongoing efforts to expand abortion rights across the state. The Department of Banking and Insurance is drafting changes to the regulations that would require plans on the state’s health care marketplace to cover abortion. If approved, it could go into effect on Jan. 1, 2023.
