New Jersey becomes 47th state to require professional licensing for police officers

New Jersey is now the 47th state to mandate licenses for all police officers, as Gov. Phil Murphy signed a bill into law he proposed back in May. The licensure program is meant to enhance public trust in the police by providing a set of uniform standards to maintain employment in law enforcement and instilling accountability by allowing licenses to be revoked for improper or illegal conduct.
