New Jersey residents struggling to pay utility bills may receive new protection from shutoffs

New Jersey residents with overdue utility bills may receive a 60-day grace period from shutoffs to their electric, gas and water services if they have applied for financial assistance. New legislation would enact the grace period in hopes of preventing mass shutoffs in the wake of the state’s expired utility moratorium.
