Penn Medicine residents move to unionize, joining a nationwide trend

Hundreds of Penn Medicine resident physicians and fellows have asked the Philadelphia-based health system to recognize their representation under the Committee of Interns and Residents, a branch of the Service Employees International Union. If successful, Penn Medicine’s residency program would be the first in Pennsylvania to unionize, allowing them to collectively bargain for better pay and health care benefits.
