Philadelphia passes 200 homicides for 2022 during violent Memorial Day Weekend

Philadelphia has now recorded more than 200 homicides in 2022 following a deadly Memorial Day Weekend in the city when 12 people died in 15 shootings. Victims were as young as 4 and as old as 66. Homicides will likely happen at a faster pace this summer, as crime rates in Philadelphia and elsewhere generally rise when the weather is warmer. The city is still behind the year-to-date homicide rate in 2021, which was a record-breaking year.
