Road closures to begin on Washington Avenue as long-awaited construction project gets underway

The long-awaited Washington Avenue improvement project is set to get underway Monday, Aug. 29. Commuters and residents should expect road closures and parking restrictions during the four-phase construction project, which will reduce the five-lane highway to three or four lanes in various portions from Fourth Street to Grays Ferry Avenue in South Philadelphia.
