Phil Murphy narrowly defeats Jack Ciattarelli for second term as New Jersey governor

Incumbent Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy has defeated former Republican state legislator Jack Ciattarelli in New Jersey’s 2021 gubernatorial election. Murphy is now the state’s first Democratic governor to win a second term in over 40 years. Ciattarelli had hoped to flip the governor’s office back to GOP control after a four-year hiatus.
