Philly surpasses 300 homicides in 2021 amid record pace and search for solutions

Philadelphia has hit a mark of 300 homicides in 2021 and is on pace to surpass a record of 500 homicides in 1990. The majority of homicides are fatal shootings, but overall shootings have increased significantly over the last year. Lawmakers and community groups continue to invest in neighborhood programs and events aimed at protecting those at risk and illustrating the emotional cost of violence.
