'Horrified' airline vows to stop shipping lab monkeys, like those involved in Pennsylvania truck crash

Kenya Airways will soon stop transporting wild animals, include lab monkeys for experimental research, after a truck accident in Pennsylvania last week resulted in a safety hazard during the shipment of 100 long-tailed macaques. Several of the monkeys escaped near Danville and we later euthanized before the rest were taken to a quarantine site. The monkeys are commonly used for infectious disease research and demand for them has spiked during the coronavirus pandemic to aid vaccine development.

Bridgeton man charged with murder in death of Jonathan Morris

New Jersey State Police have charged 21-year-old Miguel Perez in the fatal shooting of Jonathan Morris, the 23-year-old Bridgeton man who went missing late last week and whose body was found in Hopewell Township on Monday night. A GoFundMe campaign to support Morris’ family had raised more than $10,000 by Tuesday afternoon. Perez is charged with murder and related offenses.

Philadelphia providing free lawyers for some low-income renters to help with eviction cases

Beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 1, low-income renters in Philadelphia’s 19121 and 19139 zip codes will be eligible to receive free legal representation when facing eviction, according to the city’s Health and Human Services Office. The Right to Counsel was passed by Philadelphia City Council in November 2019, and further implemented in December 2021.
