Former Liberian rebel general allegedly settled in South Jersey by lying on immigration documents



Laye Sekou Camara, 43, of Mays Landing, has been arrested and charged with using an immigration document obtained through fraud. Authorities allege he lied about his past as a general in the Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy, a rebel group which committed war crimes during the nation’s second civil war between 1999 and 2003. Camara first arrived in the U.S. in 2011.

Philadelphia could impose heavier fines for illegal dumping as lawmakers push for more spending



Philadelphia’s illegal dumping is a public safety issue, City Councilmember Jamie Gauthier said in a hearing on Thursday. Councilmember Cherelle Parker introduced an ordinance that would increase the penalties for dumping and improve enforcement.

Venture capital investment in Greater Philadelphia grew 71% over the first three months of 2022, a new report from analytics firm CB Insights says. Over that period, $1.5 billion was invested in startups based in the city, mostly tech companies. It’s one of only three metro areas in the U.S. that saw growth compared with the last quarter of 2021. It saw more than twice as much growth as runner-up Atlanta and nearly four times as much growth as third place Dallas.

Black bear's capture in Clifton Heights yard recorded on video



A black bear that was spotted roaming through parts of Delaware County on Tuesday was captured overnight and will be released into a less populated area. The Clifton Heights Fire Co. shared a video on Facebook showing the moments leading up to the bear’s capture in a yard along West Baltimore Pike. The animal had been hit with a. tranquilizer earlier in the day. Bear sightings have become much more common in Southeastern Pennsylvania in recent years.
